Last Saturday, we visited Arefi village (the largest village near Birie Island), together with Dr. John Egli – who came to Papua Paradise last year – to do some GP medical care for the local Papuan villagers. The morning started a little slow when we got there; we had plenty of time to set up our little ‘pharmacy’ with Dr. Egli’s medical supplies and then within an hour, we had given out over 20 number tags to patients! Sunny the Olive-backed Sun Bird is BACK!

And even better- she has built her nest 3 metres high up in a Coconut Palm tree.. dangling from just a thin cord-like natural fibre. The nest (as you can see from these photos) is flask-shaped with a trail of fibre material at the bottom and a small overhanging porch from where Sunny sits mosts of the day guarding the eggs.
